TMJ & TMD Treatment

Did you know that over 15% of adults in this country suffer from chronic facial pain. Over the last 15 years I have noticed that 50% to 60% of adults in my practice exhibit signs or symptoms of TMJ (Tempero-Mandibular Joint) or more accurately TMD (Tempero-Mandibular Joint Dysfunction).

Common signs and symptoms include:
  • Any kind of headaches (migrane, cluster, stress).
  • Clicking or popping of the TMJ (jaw joint).
  • Pain or locking of the TMJ.
  • Facial pain.
  • Jaw pain.
  • Ear pain.
  • Ringing in the ears. (tinnitus)
  • Stuffiness in the ears (like when you are flying).
  • Difficulty chewing.
  • Limited mouth opening.
  • Uncomfortable bite.
  • Teeth shifting position.
  • Excessively worn teeth.
  • Gum recession.
  • Loose teeth.
  • Clenching / grinding of the teeth.
  • Cold or hot sensitivity of the teeth.
  • Neck pain.
  • Dizziness.
  • Deep pain behind the eyes.

Given his advanced clinical training in this area, Dr. Bloom is considered an expert in this field and has been teaching for 9 years at the world renowned L.D. Pankey Institute in Key Biscayne Florida. For 19 years, Dr. Bloom has successfully treated headache pain and related discomfort in the TMJ's, facial muscles and tooth pain.

There are many causes of TMJ dysfunction. These include trauma to the chin, jaw or TMJ, whiplash injuries, moving back teeth, poor bite or tooth alignment, night grinding (bruxism), daytime clenching, chewing gum, arthritis, stress or poor dental treatment that throws off the proper bite alignment.

In most cases, clients are fitted to a custom designed bite-splint which works like a custom orthotic made for someones shoes or ski-boots. The bite splint is adjusted and balanced until the perfect bite has been achieved. This is done without the use of medications in most cases and without the use of invasive procedures.
